The 9th episode of Season 22 and the 415th episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by actress and comedian Rosie O'Donnell, with musical guest Whitney Houston and special guest Penny Marshall. It premiered on December 14, 1996. This is Rosie O'Donnell's 2nd hosting stint and the second and final musical guest stint for Whitney Houston on SNL before her death on February 11, 2012.
Rosie O'Donnell previously hosted SNL on November 13, 1993, the sixth episode of Season 19, with musical guest James Taylor and Whitney Houston previously made her musical guest debut on February 23, 1991, the fourteenth episode of Season 16, hosted by actor Alec Baldwin.
