The 4th episode of Season 6 and the 110th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on December 13, 1980, hosted by actress Jamie Lee Curtis, star of the hit 1978 independent slasher film Halloween, with musical guests James Brown, an R&B, soul and funk musician and singer and Ellen Shipley, an musician and songwriter. Jamie Lee Curtis' first hosting stint was made, and this was the only musical guest appearances on SNL for James Brown and Ellen Shipley.

This was the first credited episode for new cast members Matthew Laurance, Eddie Murphy, and Patrick Weathers, all of whom were credited as featured players.
