The 9th episode of Season 35 and the 667th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on December 12, 2009. It was hosted by actor Taylor Lautner, star of The Twilight Saga film series, as well as the hit films The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D, Abduction, Tracers and Run the Tide and the musical guest was Bon Jovi, a rock band, who performed "Superman Tonight" and "When We Were Beautiful". This is the 4th musical guest appearance for Bon Jovi on SNL, and this is also the only time hosting for Taylor Lautner.

Bon Jovi previously made their 3rd musical guest appearances on SNL on the following dates: On January 9, 1993, the tenth episode of Season 18, hosted by actor Danny DeVito, February 18, 1995, the thirteenth episode of Season 20, hosted by football coach and former football player who is the head coach at the University of Colorado Boulder, Deion Sanders and May 12, 2001, the nineteenth episode of Season 26, hosted by actress Lara Flynn Boyle.

Jon Bon Jovi also previously hosted on October 13, 2007, the third episode of Season 33, with musical guests Foo Fighters, the legendary rock band.
