The 593rd episode and 8th episode of Season 31 of Saturday Night Live premiered on December 10, 2005. It was hosted by actor Alec Baldwin and the musical guest was Shakira, a Colombian singer-songwriter and dancer, who performed "Don't Bother" for the first performance and was joined by Alejandro Sanz to perform "La Tortura" for the second performance. This is Alec Baldwin's 12th time as host and the 2nd musical guest stint on SNL for Shakira.
Baldwin last hosted SNL was on November 15, 2003, the sixth episode of Season 29, with musical guest Missy Elliott.
Alec Baldwin's goodnights speech is "Thanks to Shakira, Alejandro Sanz and Tim Meadows, Thank you, Thank you". (Cheers and applause)

- During the Elf Motivation sketch instead of "Always Be Cobbling" Alec Baldwin accidentally "Always Be Closing", the famous line from the movie "Glengarry Glen Ross" which starred Baldwin and which the sketch is parodying.
