Charles Sidney Grodin (April 21, 1935 – May 18, 2021) was an American actor, comedian, author, and television talk show host. He hosted the October 29, 1977 episode of Saturday Night Live.

During the episode, he acted as if he had missed the rehearsal, and he went so far as to stop sketches to comment on the performances. His act was so convincing that some believed he had been banned from the show. However, in an A.V. Club interview from 2009 he revealed that, "They asked me to do it again, but I chose not to, because I can do two things: I can learn a script, or I can improvise. But you can’t improvise there, because it’s all done to time, and you can’t learn a script, because they’re changing it, changing it, changing it, so you’re pretty much forced to read teleprompters, and I just didn’t want to do it again."[1]
