Carl Sagan (November 9, 1934 - December 20, 1996) was an American astronomer, astrophysicist, cosmologist, author, science popularizer and science communicator in astronomy and natural sciences best known for writing the televisions series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage and for writing the novel Contact, the basis for a 1997 film of the same name.

Although he had never been on Saturday Night Live, he has been impersonated by Harry Shearer on May 10, 1980 during the "Pink Lady and Carl" sketch, by Gary Kroeger on December 3, 1983 during the "Crisis Game '83" sketch and on April 14, 1984 during the "Cosmos" sketch, by Bronson Pinchot on February 14, 1987 during the "Nightline" sketch and by Mike Myers on December 8, 1990 during the "The Global Warming Christmas Special" sketch.
