Betty White (January 17, 1922 – December 31, 2021) was an American actress, comedienne, singer, author and television personality best known for her role as Rose Nylund in the NBC sitcom The Golden Girls, Elka Ostrovsky in the TV Land sitcom Hot in Cleveland and host of the NBC practical-joke show Betty White's Off Their Rockers. She hosted Saturday Night Live on May 8, 2010 making her the oldest person to ever host SNL at the age of 88, surpassing Miskel Spillman (the winner of SNL's "Anyone Can Host" contest) who, in 1977, hosted at the age of 80. White also won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series in 2010 for her hosting role in SNL. She died at the age of 99 on December 31, 2021, two weeks before she would have turned 100; this left many people shocked and heartbroken. The official cause of death was complications from a stroke she had on Christmas.
