Benito Antonio Martínez "Bad Bunny" Ocasio (b. March 10, 1994) is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and songwriter. His music is often defined as Latin trap and reggaeton, but he has incorporated various other genres into his music, including rock, bachata, and soul. He is also known for his deep, slurred vocal style and his eclectic fashion sense. Throughout his career, Bad Bunny has frequently collaborated with artists such as J Balvin, Ozuna, Farruko, Residente, Arcángel, Jhay Cortez, and Daddy Yankee.
Born and raised in the municipality of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny gained popularity on SoundCloud and was eventually signed to a record label while working in a supermarket as a bagger and studying at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo. Following the release of his breakthrough single "Soy Peor" in late 2016, he rose to stardom after collaborating with Cardi B and Drake on the singles "I Like It" and "Mia", which charted on the US Billboard Hot 100 at number one and number three, respectively. His debut album X 100pre (2018) was awarded a Latin Grammy for Best Urban Music Album. His collaborative album with J Balvin, Oasis (2019), contains the popular singles "Qué Pretendes" and "La Canción".
In early 2020, he performed at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show as a guest, alongside Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, and became the first Latin urban music artist on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. During the year, Bad Bunny released his second solo studio album, YHLQMDLG (Yo hago lo que me da la gana), the surprise compilation album Las que no iban a salir, and his third album, El Último Tour Del Mundo, which became the first all-Spanish-language album to top the US Billboard 200 and generated the Billboard Global 200 number-one single "Dakiti". He became the first non-English language act to be Spotify's most streamed artist of the year (2020).
El Último Tour Del Mundo (2020), Bad Bunny's third solo album, became the first all-Spanish language album to top the Billboard 200. Its lead single, "Dákiti", reached the top-ten of the Hot 100. His fourth solo album, Un Verano Sin Ti (2022), spent 13 weeks atop the Billboard 200 and spawned four commercially successful singles. It is the first Spanish-language album to be nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Throughout his career, Bad Bunny has earned three Grammy Awards, four Latin Grammy Awards, eight Billboard Music Awards, and thirteen Lo Nuestro Awards. He was crowned Artist of the Year by Apple Music in 2022. Outside of music, Bad Bunny has ventured into professional wrestling. He began making appearances on WWE programming in 2021 and made his in-ring debut at WrestleMania 37. He is a one-time WWE 24/7 Champion and has wrestled at the 2022 Royal Rumble and the 2023 Backlash pay-per-view events.
A day before his Saturday Night Live musical guest debut. He made a surprise cameo on April 25, 2020, the seventeenth episode of Saturday Night Live's 45th season, billed as Saturday Night Live At Home, with musical guest Miley Cyrus, during the pre-filmed "Big Dominican Lunch" sketch.
He made his official musical guest debut and his 2nd appearance on Saturday Night Live on February 20, 2021, the thirteenth episode of Saturday Night Live's 46th season, hosted by the English actor Regé-Jean Page, star of Netflix's historical fiction-romance streaming series Bridgerton. He performed "La Noche de Anoche" with Rosalía and "Te Deseo Lo Mejor". He also appears in the pre-recorded "Loco" sketch and in the live-recorded "Sea Shanty" sketch.
He returned to Saturday Night Live to hosting for the first time, performing double duty and he made his 2nd musical guest appearance, as well as his 3rd appearance on SNL in total, on October 21, 2023, the second episode of Saturday Night Live's 49th season. He performed his two singles "Un preview" and "Monaco" from his fifth album Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va Pasar Mañana.
