Ariana DeBose (/ˌɑːriˈɑːnə dəˈboʊz/; born January 25, 1991) is an American actress, singer, and dancer, known for her work in musical theater, film, and television.
DeBose made her television debut competing on So You Think You Can Dance. She then made her Broadway debut in the musical Bring It On: The Musical in 2011 and appeared in further Broadway roles in Motown: The Musical in 2013 and Pippin in 2014. She also appeared in the original cast of Hamilton from 2015 to 2016 and as Jane in A Bronx Tale in 2016 to 2017. In 2018 she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Donna Summer in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical. From 2015 to 2016, she was one of the original ensemble members in Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical Hamilton, and appeared as Jane in A Bronx Tale (2016–2017). In 2018, she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance as Disco Donna in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical. In 2022, she hosted the 75th Tony Awards.
She also appeared in the taped version of Hamilton, which was released in 2020 on Disney+, and played Alyssa Greene in Netflix's The Prom (2020), Emma in the Apple TV+ musical comedy series Schmigadoon! (2021), and Anita in Steven Spielberg's musical film West Side Story (2021), for which she received a Golden Globe.
She made her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live on January 15, 2022, the tenth episode and the first show of New Year 2022 of Season 47, with musical guests Bleachers.
DeBose also became the second member of the Hamilton cast and the 200th woman to host Saturday Night Live, and the first since the Broadway hit’s creator Lin-Manuel Miranda hosted the show back on the October 8, 2016 episode, the second episode of Saturday Night Live's 42nd season, with musical guests Twenty One Pilots.
