The 947th episode and 17th episode of Saturday Night Live's 48th season premiered on April 8, 2023, hosted by longtime former cast member Molly Shannon, star of the HBO Max's comedy series The Other Two and Showtime's short-lived comedy series I Love That for You, and the hit films A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, My 5 Wives, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Wet Hot American Summer, Serendipity, Good Boy!, My Boss's Daughter, Wild Nights with Emily, Other People, Disney's sports comedy film Air Buddies, What Goes Up, Fun Mom Dinner, Spin Me Round and A Good Person and the animated films Igor and the Hotel Transylvania franchise, with musical guests Jonas Brothers. This is Molly Shannon's 2nd hosting stint and her first appearance in 15 years, 10 months, and 27 days.
This is also the Jonas Brothers' 3rd musical guest appearance, as well as Nick Jonas' 5th musical guest stint, thus making Nick a five-time musical guest on SNL.
The last time Shannon hosted the show was on May 12, 2007, the nineteenth episode and the Mother's Day show of SNL's 32nd season, with musical guests Linkin Park, a rock band.
The Jonas Brothers previously made their 2nd musical guest appearances on SNL on the following dates: On February 14, 2009, the sixteenth episode of SNL's 34th season, hosted by actor Alec Baldwin and on May 11, 2019, the twentieth and (penultimate) episode and Mother's Day show of SNL's 44th season, hosted by the British actress Emma Thompson, as they made their 2nd musical guest appearance and their first appearance for the first time in over a decade.
Nick Jonas previously made his 2nd musical guest stint and his solo musical guest debut on April 16, 2016, the eighteenth episode of SNL's 41st season, hosted by former Ebersol-era cast member Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
He also previously hosted SNL and also served as the musical guest for his 4th musical guest stint and his 2nd solo musical guest appearance on February 27, 2021, the fourteenth episode of SNL's 46th season.
