The 18th episode of Season 36 and the 698th episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by British singer, songwriter, pianist and composer Elton John, who also served as the musical guest. He was joined by Leon Russell on both musical performances. He also made his first appearance in 29 years. It premiered on April 2, 2011.
Elton John previously made his musical guest debut was on April 17, 1982, the seventeenth episode of SNL's 7th season, with host Johnny Cash. This is also his first time as the host, as well as his second musical guest stint on SNL.
