The 17th episode of Season 7 and the 136th episode of Saturday Night Live premiered on April 17, 1982, hosted by country singer-songwriter Johnny Cash with musical guest Elton John, a British singer, pianist and composer.
This was the only time hosting for Johnny Cash, as well as the musical guest debut for Elton John on SNL.
The Man in Black only in three sketches (playing himself in two of those) but did perform three musical numbers (including a medley of three songs) in addition to Elton's two.
