The 20th episode of Season 34 and the 656th episode of Saturday Night Live, and it was hosted by the actor Zac Efron, star of Disney Channel's High School Musical franchise, as well as the hit films The Derby Stallion, Hairspray, Me and Orson Welles, 17 Again, Charlie St. Cloud, New Year's Eve, The Paperboy, At Ant Price, Parkland, Neighbors and the sequel Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, We Are Your Friends, Dirty Grandpa, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, The Disaster Artist, Baywatch, The Greatest Showman, The Beach Bum, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, Gold, Firestarter, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, The Iron Claw, Ricky Stanicky, and A Family Affair, and the animated films The Lorax and Scoob, and the host of Netflix's web documentary series Down to Earth with Zac Efron, with musical guest Yeah Yeah Yeahs, an indie rock band, who performed "Zero" and "Maps". It premiered on April 11, 2009. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs made their musical guest debut on SNL, and this is Zac Efron's only time hosting.
