Ana Celia de Armas Caso (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈana ˈselja ðe ˈaɾmas ˈkaso]; born 30 April 1988) is a Cuban and Spanish actress. She began her career in Cuba with a leading role in the romantic drama Una rosa de Francia (2006). At the age of 18, she moved to Madrid, Spain, and starred in the popular drama El Internado for six seasons from 2007 to 2010.
After moving to Los Angeles, de Armas had English-speaking roles in the psychological thriller Knock Knock (2015) and the comedy-crime film War Dogs (2016). She rose to prominence with her role as the holographic AI projection Joi in the science fiction film Blade Runner 2049 (2017). For her performance as nurse Marta Cabrera in the mystery film Knives Out (2019), she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. She subsequently portrayed the Bond girl Paloma in the James Bond film No Time to Die (2021) and Norma Jeane in the biopic Blonde (2022). For Blonde, de Armas became the first Cuban to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress.[1]
De Armas next starred in the Apple TV+ film Ghosted, also starring Chris Evans, for which she replaced actress Scarlett Johansson. Benjamin Lee of The Guardian panned the film and the lack of chemistry between de Armas and Evans.[91] She will next play the title role of an assassin in the action thriller Ballerina, a spin-off of the John Wick franchise.[92]
Armas made her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live on April 15, 2023, the eighteenth and final episode of Season 48, with musical guest Karol G. It also which ended up being the season finale, due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America Strike.
While hosting Saturday Night Live on 15 April 2023, she stated that she would be receiving American citizenship in three weeks.
