Alex Trebek (July 22, 1940 – November 8, 2020) was a Canadian television personality who served as the long time host of the game show Jeopardy!. He was impersonated by Will Ferrell in the recurring sketch Celebrity Jeopardy!. In that sketch, he is gradually frustrated by the celebrities' incompetence on the game show, notably with Sean Connery (who appeared almost every episode of Celebrity Jeopardy), who was known for his pranks and implying that he had sexual relations with Trebek's mother, and Burt Reynolds, who insisted on being called "Turd Ferguson", as he found that name funny. While Will Ferrell impersonated him with his iconic moustache, the real Trebek shaved it off in 2001.
Trebek was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada on July 22, 1940. He started hosting Jeopardy in 1984, after brief stints hosting game shows in Canada, and continued continuously until his death in 2020.
Trebek died on November 8, 2020, of pancreatic cancer at the age of 80. He was initially replaced by two hosts: Mike Richard hosting the syndicated series and Mayim Bialik hosting the primetime episodes. However, Richards resigned after hosting five episodes after controversy surrounding his past comments. Richards was replaced by former Jeopardy contestant Ken Jennings (who had a 74-game winning streak from 2003 to 2004). Jennings is the current host of the syndicated Jeopardy, sharing duties with primetime host Bialik.
